SAP Marks 25 Years in Asia PacificSAP SE has announced its plans to expand innovation capabilities in Singapore with an SAP Innovation Center by the end of 2014, focusing on delivering breakthrough innovations around Smart Cities, Industry 4.0, Healthcare and Digital Consumers.

In an increasingly networked economy powered by smart devices, the SAP Innovation Center aims to foster local economic opportunities by identifying untapped market and customer needs and creating new innovative, user-centric products. This involves co-innovation with SAP customers and partners as well as research collaboration with local universities. Further fuelling the startup ecosystem, the center will provide local startups with the latest technologies and offer market access to expand their reach.

“While our technology is very sophisticated, it actually delivers a dramatically simplified IT landscape that benefits our customers,” said Rob Enslin, Executive Board Member and President of Global Customer Operations at SAP. “It ties in with our ‘run simple’ philosophy, which includes simplifying our products and by extension, makes it easier for customers to take advantage of SAP technologies. In line with our vision to improve lives, this SAP Innovation Center will deliver a constant stream of innovative software solutions to tackle the great challenges of our time.”

SAP is also tapping on the increasingly vibrant IT ecosystem across the region to identify ideas at an early stage and leverage access to a large pool of the brightest young talent. Under the SAP University Alliances Student Entrepreneurship program, students can develop new solutions across SAP’s technologies leveraging in-memory platform SAP HANA, the SAP Mobile Platform and analytics capabilities. The students will gain access to these technologies, SAP experts, mentors and an entrepreneurship curriculum. Launched globally in March, the Student Entrepreneurship program was recently announced in Australia, Singapore and India and will be introduced in Japan and Korea later this year.

Twitter’s user base will increase 24.4% in 2014, according to eMarketer’s first-ever forecast of Twitter users worldwide. But what is even more surprising is that more than 40% of the Twitter users worldwide will be in Asia-Pacific alone by 2018. The user growth is expected to continue growing with double-digit gains through 2018, as eMarketer estimates, thus opening up significant opportunities for Twitter to increase its audience across emerging markets.

According to eMarketer, the number of Twitter users in Asia-Pacific has already eclipsed those in North America and Western Europe by a wide margin-even excluding China where there is a ban on the site. In 2014, the Asia-Pacific region will account for 32.8% of all Twitter users, compared with 23.7% in North America and by 2018, Asia-Pacific will break the 40% mark in terms of worldwide market share.

Toshiya Matsuki is NEC’s CEO for Asia-Pacific

NEC Asia Pacific has announced that Toshiya Matsuki has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer.

Toshiya Matsuki has over 30 years of overseas business experience since he joined NEC Corporation of Japan in 1983 and has held both executive and sales management positions during his career. His work experience spans from serving at the Jakarta Representative Office as Chief Representative for two years and NEC Europe Ltd as Deputy General Manager for four years. Matsuki later returned to NEC Corporation to assume position as the Deputy General Manager of Americas and EMEA Sales Division in 2010 and became the Vice-President of the International Sales and Operations Business Unit in 2011.

Prior to his appointment as the new CEO of NEC Asia Pacific, he is also the Associate Senior Vice-President of NEC Corporation since the beginning of April 2013.

With his new appointment and responsibilities, Matsuki said, “I am honoured to be leading the enterprising and experienced team at NEC Asia Pacific.  I am looking forward to this challenging position where we will continue to work closely with our NEC country affiliates in the Asia-Pacific region to cultivate and grow the NEC brand by bringing value, innovation and efficiency to our stakeholders.”

HP has announced new HP Converged Cloud solutions specifically for organizations in Asia-Pacific and Japan (APJ) to facilitate cloud adoption and simplify deployment to enhance business innovation and agility.

 

HP Converged Cloud is the industry’s first hybrid delivery approach and solution portfolio based on a common architecture that spans private, managed and public clouds as well as traditional IT.  New HP Converged Cloud offerings for APJ include HP CloudSystem Quick Start Kit and HP CloudSystem Solutions.

Intel has hosted hundreds of Asia-Pacific channel partners at its annual Intel Solutions Summit, held this year in Bali, Indonesia. The Summit, held over three days, will provide Intel’s partner community with the tools to deliver solutions to businesses and consumers across the region. The Intel Technology Partner programme saw a massive increase across Asia-Pacific during the past year, with 7,000 new organizations added.
