Sophos has revealed that Facebook is phasing out its old look in next few weeks and making the new profile format mandatory for all users – known as ‘Timeline’ – which presents a scrapbook of all past status updates and photographs. Sophos research claims that more than 50 percent of internet users are concerned about the Facebook profile update.
The online Sophos poll surveyed more than 4,100 global respondents on their opinion of the Facebook Timeline. Key findings from the research include- 51 percent are worried by the Facebook Timeline; Only 8 percent like the new Facebook Timeline; 8 percent say they will get used to it; and 32 percent still don’t know why they are on Facebook.

GIGABYTE has completed two phases of a pan-India initiative to train its Value Partners, on the new Intel X79 chipset-based GIGABYTE motherboards that support the second-Generation Intel Core i7 processor family for high-end desktops.
The training programme was jointly conducted by GIGABYTE and Intel personnel for the benefit of GIGABYTE Value Partners, comprising mostly System Integrators (SIs), at more than 30 venues across metro, Tier-2 and also Tier-3 locations. The programme focussed training on the GIGABYTE X79 series motherboards that feature new GIGABYTE 3D Power application, based on a 3-way Digital Power Engine for both the PWM and memory, and the new GIGABYTE UEFI Dual BIOS technology.
While Intel conducted training sessions on the second-generation, Intel Core i7 processors bring a number of new enthusiast-class features to Intel’s latest extreme platform. Featuring the new LGA 2011 socket and based on the latest updated micro-architecture, these new processors feature up to six cores with up to 15MB L3 cache and four-channel DDR3 memory.

Oracle has announced the unprecedented ability to process more than one billion records and generate 500,000 customer bills within an eight-hour nightly window using Oracle Utilities Customer Care and Billing, Oracle Utilities Meter Data Management and Oracle Utilities Smart Grid Gateway – integrated using Oracle Application Integration Architecture and running on Oracle Exadata Database Machine X2-2and Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud X2-2. The test data was a subset extracted from 30 billion interval meter reads.
The test, designed according to real business scenarios, processed data reported from 10 million smart meters, each reporting nearly 100 reads per day, which is representative of the daily processing needs for a typical utility service provider.
The test used one month of historical meter data via Oracle Utilities Meter Data Management (30 billion meter readings) and a six-month billing history on Oracle Utilities Customer Care and Billing (60 million bills). The test billed each account using three different rates (simulating “peak,” “shoulder” and “off-peak” rates).

This test – the only one of its kind to date – proves that Oracle’s complete, integrated mission-critical software solutions running on Oracle’s engineered systems help utilities correctly size their data warehouses to process the high volumes of consumption data generated by smart meters. That data, in the end, helps utilities help their customers to monitor and manage energy use with greater flexibility and control,” said Rodger Smith, Senior Vice-President & General Manager, Oracle Utilities.
AMI has released India Channel Partner study that reveals that channel partners offering cloud solutions tend to be optimistic – they are expecting strong revenue growth driven by customer demand for hosted applications and vendor investments in this area. Quality of solutions and post-sales service are the major drivers to accelerate cloud adoption among SMB customers in India.
Remotely managed IT services (RMITS) is the most common cloud service offered, as it requires less investment for partners, followed by software-as-a-service (SaaS). Other cloud services include infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) and cloud consulting services.
“There are three distinct forms of cloud solutions offered by channel partners I India. They are public, private and hybrid. Financial and professional business services are the top industries currently served by these partners and these businesses typically prefer a private solution as they are subject to strict regulations,” said Arnab Bhar, Analyst, AMI-India.

Port Indigo Inc. has launched its India operations under the name of Port Indigo Mobile Solutions Private Limited to cater to the Indian mobile user, with technology to help overcome and disregard usage barriers and unfamiliarity of the mobile phone. This is believed to be a wholly-owned subsidiary of the US parent and has its registered office in Mumbai. Kall Ramanathan heads the company’s India operations as its Country Head. Port Indigo USA is an offshoot of Thaumaturgix, Inc., an 18 year old IT services company based in New York City.
