Gurdeep will be responsible for leading Reliance Communications Wireless Business to achieve higher revenues and profitability. Additionally, Gurdeep Singh will also be a member of the Reliance Management Board (RMB).

Brocade and NEC Corporation of America (NEC) have expanded collaboration to bring to market combined solutions around Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and OpenFlow switching, including network virtualization.

Brocade and NEC will jointly market solutions for network virtualization, large-scale data center infrastructure management, traffic engineering and Wide Area Network (WAN) flow management, with an open standards-based approach. Brocade and NEC will market these high-value solutions built around Brocade’s OpenFlow-enabled products and NEC’s award-winning Programmable Flow Controller. As part of the collaboration, Brocade and NEC are committing to ongoing certification, interoperability and solution validation testing. Brocade and NEC are collaborating on technology and implementation alignment, including OpenFlow standards, tunnel technology and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to help ensure ongoing innovation and seamless deployment by joint customers.

Mahindra Satyam sets up Delivery Centre for Aerospace & Defense

Mahindra Satyam has set up an exclusive delivery centre for Aerospace and Defense in Toulouse, France. This is a part of the company’s larger strategy of expanding the European footprint with a focus to strengthen relationships with regional Aerospace and Defense businesses. The centre is Mahindra Satyam’s second such investment after setting up its first dedicated Aerospace centre in Hamburg, Germany in 2008. The new centre is expected to ramp up operations and create opportunities for local talent in the Engineering, Information Technology and Communications domains.

Nokia Siemens to equip Kolkata Metro Line

Indian Railways has selected Nokia Siemens Networks as its partner for equipping the Kolkata metro line with Global System for Mobile Communications – Railway (GSM-R) infrastructure. This is said to further improve the safety and reliability of the Kolkata metro line while lowering operational costs for Indian Railways.


As part of its GSM-R deployments, Nokia Siemens Networks is providing its Flexi Base Stations and Flexi Base Station Controllers that offer vastly improved capacity. The company is supplying all operational components including switching centres, Intelligent Network (IN) platforms, service and management platforms, controller data transmission elements and mobile handsets for drivers. In addition, Nokia Siemens Networks is providing its In-Building Solution to enhance indoor coverage for the Kolkata metro project. The scope covers care services that include spare part management, software maintenance, third-party software support and training.

PHD Chamber organizes National Seminar 

The PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), in association with Albion Infotel, has organized a national Seminar on Information Security – Cloud Computing: Implications for MSMEs. The seminar provided a platform to reflect on the importance of remote storage of information through cloud computing and the growing threat to information security – a major area of concern for most subscribers of cloud computing.


Shri Kapil Sibal, Hon’ble Minister of Communications and IT, Government of India; Sanjeev Gupta, President & Managing Director, Albion Infotel Pvt. Ltd; and Sandip Somany, President PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, were present at the day-long seminar and discussed pertinent issues relating to Data, Information and Cyber Security. The focus of the seminar was on leveraging IT at its best without compromising the security of remotely stored data. 


Shri Kapil Sibal said, “With over 2,50,000 gram panchayats being connected over fiber optics, everybody is being connected at an enormous speed in India. In the new world, we need new solutions and cloud computing is a business model to manage competitiveness of businesses in this environment. We now need to better understand optimal use of this technology while addressing concerns about security and privacy.”


Sanjeev Gupta said, “Cloud computing is a technology that emerged during the recession period for companies to reduce costs and infrastructure management. Shared infrastructure and scalability are options provided by the service providers.”


The seminar also included a technical session, including experts from Albion, VMware, EMC2, Kaspersky and Data Security Council of India to address technical and materiel aspects of the information security in the context of cloud computing.
