Infotech Forum 2018 highlights Innovation, Digitization & Disruption in the ICT industry

There are organizations that determine the Internet’s structure and how it works, but they don’t have any ownership over the Internet itself. No government can lay claim to owning the Internet, nor can any company but there are many hundreds of root servers at over 130 physical locations in many different countries. There are twelve organisations responsible for the overall coordination of the management of these servers.

Google Australia Under Investigation for Stealing User DataThe Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and the country’s Other Privacy Commissioner are investigating Google regarding the claims that it collects user data from Android smartphones.

* Google is reportedly collecting around 1GB of data per month from Android devices in Australia, containing detailed location data.

* Google’s privacy policy agreement covers data collection for its services, but there are questions about the transparency of the agreement.

This comes after US-based software company Oracle apparently discovered that Google may be collecting around 1GB of user data per month from Android phones in Austrailia.

This reportedly includes location information, even where location services are turned off, with no apps installed, and where no SIM card is inserted.Google has mapped IP addresses, Wi-Fi connection points, and mobile towers, which allow it to know where a device is connecting or attempting to connect without using the phone’s location service….Read More

Coolpad files 2 patent infringement cases against Xiaomi in China

Coolpad files 2 patent infringement cases against Xiaomi in ChinaCoolpad has announced that its unit has sued three group firms of Xiaomi for several patent infringements. Coolpad said in a statement that its subsidiary, Yulong Computer Telecommunication Scientific (Shenzhen) Co. Limited has filed a lawsuit against Xiaomi Telecom Technology Co, Xiaomi Technology Co and Xiaomi Factory Co., in a court in Jiangsu province for using its patents without authorization.

Yulong demanded that the Xiaomi companies should immediately stop production or offering for sale and current sale of some of the smartphone models, including Xiaomi 6, Xiaomi Max2, Xiaomi Note3, Xiaomi 5X, Redmi Note4X and Mi MIX2. Yulong had filed a similar legal case against Xiaomi in a Shenzhen court in January 2018 as well. The patents involved in this lawsuit are systematic interactions or UI type patents. They all involve basic communication, display and interactive functions of mobile phones, and are difficult to circumvented or replaced.

“It is because the IP (intellectual property) protection environment in China has improved, Coolpad launched the lawsuit in January this year,” Coolpad’s Global Chief Patent Officer Nancy Zhang told a press conference on Friday. Coolpad has alleged that Xiaomi violated its patented multi-SIM card design and other technology related to user interface.
