European Union regulators have awarded a fine over android antitrust case in favour of Google with a record of $5.06 billion for using its Android mobile operating system to squeeze out rivals, and ordered changes to its business that could loosen the company’s grip on its biggest growth engine: mobile phones.
As Android is an open-source and free operating system, device manufacturers still have to obtain a license, with certain conditions, from Google to integrate its Play Store service within their smartphones.
The European Commission levied the fine Wednesday, saying that Google has broken the law by forcing Android smartphone manufacturers to pre-install its own mobile apps and services, like Google Search, Chrome, YouTube, and Gmail, as a condition for licensing. Now Google maps to get augmented reality(AR), with VPS (Visual Positioning System).
With AR on, a future version of the Maps app will merge its traditional interface with a live camera view. When doing navigation, superimposed arrows will appear at each turn, making it harder to misinterpret directions. The company is even experimenting with inserting animated characters such as a fox, which would remove any doubt and make the app more entertaining.
VPS is a related feature, combining the live camera view with Google’s data trove to get a better sense of position than possible with just GPS. The technology could be especially useful in dense urban areas where GPS is often blocked by skyscrapers.

Greater Visakhapatnam Smart City Corporation Limited (GVSCCL) has announced a three-year partnership with IL&FS Education and Technology Services to provide holistic education solutions including hardware, software, training and certification to schools in the city of Visakhapatnam. In a recent news on Google to buy smartphone business of HTC, struggling from a long time to maintain revenues, and the devices haven’t exactly been a hit. In fact with the rise of Chinese players like Oppo, Vivo, Huawei and Xiaomi etc.According to a report by the Chinese publication Commercial Times, Google is considering two options to seal the deal with HTC that is reportedly building Google’s “Pixel 2” line of smartphones.
The Google acquisition is being cited given the close relationship between the two companies. HTC is strategic partner of Google by manufacturing the Google Pixel smartphone and the original Nexus phone was also a HTC device.
