Google helps GVSCCL to provide education to Visakhapatnam schoolGreater Visakhapatnam Smart City Corporation Limited (GVSCCL) has announced a three-year partnership with IL&FS Education and Technology Services to provide holistic education solutions including hardware, software, training and certification to schools in the city of Visakhapatnam. To start with, 31 schools are being enabled with this solution. The announcement was made on the sidelines of the India Foundation Day for Smart Cities Mission held in Visakhapatnam.

Google’s education offering enables students to learn using open web technologies including apps and interactive content. The future classroom lab setup blends the needs of a digital classroom through the use of K-Yan, an integrated computer projector and personalized learning through the use of Chromebooks for each student. Under the partnership, the schools will be provided Chromebooks with GSuite for Education. The content on the Chromebooks will be available in both English and Telugu. The devices come with Chrome Management Console(CMC) for managed and secure learning experiences for students, when accessing the internet and professional development for teachers. The partnership includes skills training for teachers to enable them to effectively enhance the classroom experience. Google to buy HTC’s smartphone

The Google acquisition is being cited given the close relationship between the two companies. HTC is strategic partner of Google by manufacturing the Google Pixel smartphone and the original Nexus phone was also a HTC device. Google is reportedly planning to “either become a strategic partner, or outright buy the entire smartphone unit”.

Facebook and Google to co-build PLCN submarine cable

pacific-light-cable-networkTE SubCom, a TE Connectivity company along with Facebook, Google, and PLDC (Pacific Light Data Communication), today announced that they will co-build the Pacific Light Cable Network (PLCN).

PLCN is a 12,800 km transpacific submarine cable system that will provide the first direct undersea route between Hong Kong and Los Angeles, California (USA) with ultra-high capacity transmission.

Scheduled for commercial launch in summer of 2018, PLCN will include TE SubCom’s C+L technology, a major step forward in available cable transmission capacity that effectively doubles the available bandwidth and capacity per fiber pair over a traditional C-band-only designed system. Once completed, PLCN will be the highest-capacity transpacific route.
