Sunil Dutt bids adieu to BlackBerry

According to a shocking revelation, BlackBerry (previously Research In Motion or RIM) has announced that Sunil Dutt, India Managing Director has resigned from the company. He left the company with immediate effect.  Sunil Dutt had joined BlackBerry in 2011.

Varghese Thomas, Corporate Communications Director at BlackBerry India said, “In the interim, Rick Costanzo, Executive Vice President for global sales, will take over the leadership of the team in India and the company has started searching for a new sales lead as soon as possible.”

Varghese further added, “Sunil Dutt has left his position as managing director, BlackBerry India, with immediate effect. We wish Sunil well for the future. India is an extremely important market for BlackBerry and our aim is to continue to build on our recent momentum with the launch of BlackBerry 10”.

It is worth noticing here that Sunil is an industry veteran with 27 years of work experience in different firms. Prior to RIM, Sunil was leading HP’s PC group. Lenovo explores Acquisition Possibilities

Amidst reported talks of acquisition of some firms including Canadian smartphone maker RIM by PC manufacturer Lenovo, the Chinese company has said it is on its way to explore possibilities in the direction. “However, we will never depend on acquisition,” said Wong Wai Ming, Senior Vice-President & Chief Financial Officer, Lenovo Group.

India remains high in Lenovo’s scheme of things. Commenting on the year gone by, Amar Babu, Managing Director, Lenovo India, said, “The year 2012 marked a series of milestones for us – our Protect & Attack strategy, which refers to securing our leadership in our core businesses, while attacking newer opportunities, ensured that our overall profitability was not compromised in the run for market share. We will continue to invest in the India business, and I am confident that we will sustain this momentum in the years to come.”

Meanwhile, Lenovo has reported a quarterly profit of $204.9 million for the third quarter ended December 2012, up 30 per cent from $154 million in the corresponding period previous year…..See More

GETIT teams up with RIM

GETIT Infoservices has announced that they are working together with Research In Motion (RIM) to market BlackBerry enterprise solutions (BES) to small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in India. The association will help RIM market its BlackBerry enterprise solutions for SMEs through GETIT’s strong field force, and will initially target companies in Bangalore and Delhi, with other cities in India in 2013. GETIT will market RIM’s Enterprise Mobility Solutions including BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express, which is available for free and features no software licence fees or additional per user licence fees.

Considering the popularity of photography, Research In Motion (RIM) has rolled out various smartphone apps, specifically aimed to make Photography Day memorable not just for professionals, but also amateur photographers.


Ghost Camera app captures ghosts with the user’s camera just for fun. Photo Port app for BlackBerry PlayBook is an online group-based photo collaboration tool for events, places, and common interests whereas, PhotoFunia app finds the face in the user’s photo and integrates it with the scene of their choice.


Photo Studio Pro Limited Edition app helps user edit their photo and directly share them from photo studio and supports various languages. LensBoost app is the photo filtering app for the BlackBerry Smartphone that has been updated. One can add vintage/retro Filters, Frames, and Overlays to their photos with LensBoost.

Liquid-Photo for BlackBerry PlayBook Turn user’s BlackBerry PlayBook into a liquid photo slide show. This app includes Complete Photo Browser and can create rain effect over top of your image slide show and comes with In-App Camera control.

Color Splasher smartphone app allows one to convert an image to black and white and then add color back to selected areas. BlackBerry 10 Jam World Tour was held in the capital today. This event was dedicated to providing the app developer community with insights on the BlackBerry 10 platform; its strengths, the vision, and how developers can make apps that stand out to app-hungry BlackBerry users.

“BlackBerry 10 Jam World Tour will give us the opportunity to engage directly with BlackBerry developers here in India. The new Porsche Design P’9981 comes with the latest BlackBerry OS and features a 1.2 GHz processor and Liquid Graphics technology, HD video recording, 24-bit high resolution graphics, advanced sensors enabling new augmented reality applications, and built-in support for NFC (Near Field Communications). It comes with 8 GB of on-board memory, expandable to up to 40 GB with a microSD card.

Just as a proof of how important the Indian market is for RIM, for the first time it announced a global launch of Blackberry Curve 9220 starting from the country.  It has everything a user needs to stay socially connected throughout the day. It even features a dedicated BBM key, that makes it all the more easy to get access to BBM.

BlackBerry 7.0 OS supports the full complement of BB services and the smartphones built in Wi-Fi can provide smooth and fast internet browsing without incurring mobile data usage cost. It also includes built-in FM radio, which is based on the feedback from the consumers’ especially the Indian youth.

RIM introduces Mobile Fusion

Research In Motion has released its BlackBerry Mobile Fusion software, which is said to enable companies to manage iOS and Android devices through the same servers used for BlackBerry smartphones and the Playbook tablet. That is believed to include configuring devices with email and calendar access, creating groups, establishing security policies, managing lost phones, controlling roaming to avoid pricey fees, and more.

RIM has claimed to offer a 60-day free trial for the new service and after that a Client Access License is supposed to cost $99 per user plus an additional $4 per user a month, with discounts available for bulk orders.
