Hitachi Data Systems launches new software-defined infrastructure solutions

Huawei bags India CSR Community Initiative award

Huawei has been conferred with “Best Innovative CSR Project in Education” for its programme E- hope, implemented in multiple locations across India, by the India CSR Community Initiative Awards.

The case study was based on the project – E-hope – to equip, educate and empower young minds. This programme aims to digitally equip rural schools in India and aid in bridging the digital divide by providing access to the information technology and computer systems. By providing computers and promoting equal access to connectivity, the program contributes significantly to narrowing the gap between the digital ‘haves’ and ‘have-nots’.  E-Hope intends to reach about 100,000 children annually. The program was launched across India in phases with an objective to build a knowledge network of 1,000 schools within the next two to three years.

DIAG to provide ideas and accelerate rollout of Digital India Programme

To provide ideas for enriching and accelerating the rollout of Digital India Programme across the Country, MAIT has launched the Digital India Action Group (DIAG). DIAG will strive to ensure the success of the Digital India Programme by providing strategic inputs to various Committees and Teams that would be constituted under the aegis of the PMO, DeitY and other Government Departments and Ministries.

Debjani Ghosh, Vice-President, MAIT, said, “Technology has the potential to connect the whole of India and benefit each and every citizen. Digital India should enable the percolation of technology to the people and each citizen should be able to access government services with ease.”

She further said that MAIT is best suited to support and complement the efforts of the Government in implementing Digital India as it has a vast knowledge base from across the IT ecosystem, which can prove to be a game-changer for this ambitious programme.

Cabinet sanctions Rs.98,000 Crore for 100 Smart Cities

Modi government’s two leading schemes – 100 smart cities and urban rejuvenation programme for 500 towns and cities got a nod from the Cabinet. These initiatives are aimed at reorganization of urban landscape and to make such areas more livable and inclusive, besides driving economic growth. A sum of Rs.98,000 crore has been sanctioned to execute these schemes in the next five years.

The work is to be undertaken for smaller cities and towns with one lakh or more population under a new scheme named after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee – Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT). The Centre will spend Rs.50,000 crore for this scheme. This will be the new scheme in place of JNNURM named after India’s first PM Jawaharlal Nehru during the UPA rule.

The cities selected through a “city challenge” competition under the smart city initiative will get central assistance of Rs.100 crore per year for five years. To start with, around 20 cities would be chosen for the Central assistance after the state governments come forward with names of cities they want to nominate.

A Ministry spokesperson said that the criteria for competition would be finalized soon and these will be linked to financing with the ability of the cities to perform and achieve mission objectives. According to an official release, the smart cities mission intends to promote adoption of smart solutions for efficient use of available assets, resources and infrastructure with the objective of enhancing the quality of urban life and providing a clean and sustainable environment.
