2013 witnessed rapid growth in smartphone sale, says IDC

2013 witnessed rapid growth in smartphone sale, says IDC

According to the International Data Corporation (IDC) in 2013 the smartphone market surpassed 44 million units shipped, up from 16.2 million in 2012.  This surge has been mainly powered by homegrown vendors which have shown a tremendous and consistent growth over the past four quarters of 2013.

The overall phone market stood at close-to 257 million units in CY 2013 – an 18% increase from 218 million units in CY2012.

The India smartphone market grew by 181% year over year (YoY) in the fourth quarter of 2013 (4Q13).  According to International Data Corporation’s (IDC) APEJ Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, vendors shipped a total of 15.06 million smartphones in 4Q13 compared to 5.35 million units in the same period of 2012. 4Q13 grew by almost 18% Quarter-on-Quarter.

Bentley has reportedly acquired the eB services business of DocQnet Systems International, a Woodmead, South Africa-based services organization focussed on project and asset information management solutions. It also announced that 10 of DocQnet’s highly skilled and experienced consultants have joined Bentley’s extensive Global Professional Services team dedicated to meeting the demands of Bentley users employing eB-based products and solutions worldwide.

SUSE has announced general availability of SUSE Cloud 3, the next version of the original enterprise-ready OpenStack distribution for building Infrastructure-as-a-Service private clouds. SUSE Cloud 3 provides customers with greater flexibility to cost-effectively deploy private clouds with existing virtualized data centers by delivering full support for VMware vSphere through integration with VMware vCenter Server.

Vodafone associates with Delhi Traffic Police to promote Safe Mobility

 

Vodafone India has joined hands with Delhi Traffic Police to associate with the Delhi Police Week to launch its Safe Mobility Campaign in the city today. Through this campaign, Vodafone India is encouraging consumers – “TO NOT USE THEIR PHONE, WHILE DRIVING”.

500 children from various NGOs and more than 800 Vodafone employees participated in the safety march which was flagged off from Rajpath and culminated at Shastri Bhawan to promote Safe Mobility. It is a distinctive endeavour from Vodafone, to promote responsible mobility and connect with customers highlighting a strong social message.

The safety march was jointly flagged off by Subrat Padhi, Business Head – Delhi, Vodafone India, and Anil Shukla, Addl. C.P, Delhi Traffic Police.

Speaking about the initiative, Subrat Padhi, Business Head – Delhi, Vodafone India, said, “Vodafone India, as a value-based organization, is passionate about people and is constantly working towards providing and maintaining a safe and healthy environment for its employees, customers and the society.
