Govt. finalizes cloud service providers; AWS name missing

cloud-service-providers-approved-by-govtThe government has finalised provisional empanelment of Cloud Service Offerings of Cloud Service providers (CSPs) coined as MeghRaj today but Amazon Web Services (AWS) name is missing from the list.

With reference to the RFP dated 30th December 2015, MeitY (Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology) has successfully concluded the evaluation process of provisionally empaneling the Cloud Service Offerings of Cloud Service Providers.

Airtel, Idea and Vodafone blocking number portability says Reliance Jio

number-portBharti Airtel, Idea Cellular and Vodafone has been blocking mobile number portability (MNP) facility for their subscribers who wish to subscribe to Reliance Jio services on baseless and unsubstantiated grounds.

This is another example of disregard of license terms and their obligations under the Telecommunication Mobile Number Portability Regulations, 2009 (“MNP Regulations”) and TRAI directions says Reliance Jio.

This is again an anti-competitive move aimed at stifling a new operator, denying the Indian customers the benefit of choice of service provider and this is against public interest and fair play….Read More

Smartwatch shipments to reach 20.1 mn units in 2016

smartwatch-shipmentsThe worldwide Smartwatch shipments will reach 20.1 million units in 2016, an increase of 3.9 per cent from the 19.4 million units shipped in 2015 according to a new forecast from the International Data Corporation (IDC).

The Smartwatch shipments market will see a modest growth in 2016 due to late-in-the-year and iterative product releases. IDC categorizes smartwatches as those that can run third party applications. Examples include Apple’s Watch, Samsung’s Gear S3, Motorola’s Moto 360, and Pebble’s Watch. Smartwatches are part of IDC’s larger category of Smart Wearable devices, which also include smart glasses and certain wristbands.

IDC expects total smart wearable volumes to reach 21.5 million units shipped in 2016. By volume, smartwatches account for the largest part of the category, and are expected to reach a total value of $17.8 billion dollars in 2020….Read More

Samsung to recall 1 million Galaxy Note7 smartphones

samsung-note7Samsung has announced a voluntary recall of one million Galaxy Note7 devices in cooperation with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Samsung has received 92 reports of the batteries overheating in the US, including 26 reports of burns and 55 reports of property damage, including fires in cars and a garage. Samsung plans to recall one million Samsung Galaxy Note7 smartphones in the US market due to serious fire and burn hazards.

“The affected devices were sold in the US before September 15, 2016 and can overheat and pose a safety risk, it is extremely important to stop using Samsung Galaxy Note7 device, power it down and immediately exchange it using our US Note7 Exchange Program,” says a statement released by Samsung….Read More
